Like Minded People (LMP), Mumbai is a group of members from Karwar Konkan Maratha Samaj who have come together to work towards a common objective of welfare of the community members.
As a community we are facing many challenges. Konkan Maratha community has been residing in Karwar and neighboring places for last 250 years. However around 80 years ago, the immigration of the community started mainly to Mumbai in search of employment and livelihood. Later they started migrating to other districts of Karnataka and Goa. The community in last 40 years has made significant progress in Education and Employment and are presently doing exceedingly well in all walks of life.
As a result of migration, the strength of our community members has reduced in Karwar.
About 50 years ago, as per poll census, there were about 45,000 members from our community in Karwar. Today we are less than 5000 members and the attachment to hometown of those who have left for the bigger cities is also fast diminishing at an alarming rate. Several challenges have emanated within the community from this basic problem of lost connection with our hometown.
The seeds of forming LMP got germinated in 2008 when a team of 10 committee members of Konkan Maratha Association, Karwar came to Mumbai to discuss with representatives of all our Associations on the various challenges faced by our community.
About 50 representatives attended this meeting, however there were no follow up action steps. A small group of 10 members then took the initiative and formed the LMP Group. This Group decided to approach selected cities and have heart to heart discussions with community members. The first Charcha Satra was organized in Dadar, Mumbai with the topic
Invitations were sent to 100 families for this program and they were requested to attend along with their children. More than 350 members turned up and actively debated the various issues put forth by the organizers. The program was a huge success and there was a demand for organizing similar programs for the benefit of the members.
LMP through its various programs has tried to address these challenges faced by the Community.Later as the activities of the organization increased, it gracefully embraced the new generation volunteers in its fold. Today LMP has about 38 members completely devoted towards its cause.
LMP is an independent and self-funded organization with no affiliation to any other associations of the community. We do not accept any donation nor do we take any charges for our programs.
